CA's CAN sue you if they've legitimately purchased the debt. In some states, CA's have no standing in court, so they cannot sue you.

A lot depends on how much you owe and what your financial picture looks like. Discover will sue quickly and for any amount. Providian and Citi seem to be pretty quick lately too. Sears .. well. they do sue, but they also give accounts to RMA - a very BAD CA and they make a lot of threats.
