I am trying to get a mortgage and the Lender pulled my credit report and my fiancees. My fiancee has the worst credit I have seen: medical bills in the 10's of thousands, credit cards and a car that was totalled with a balance of 9,000 and he has never paid 1 penny on any of it and his credit score (FICO)is 544! I have damaged credit: 1 paid judgement, 2 chargeoffs paid in full and the rest paid on time good standing and my score was 588! I learned that sometimes paying debts hurts you! He never paid so it didn't have a payment history but mine had lates which hurt my score. Most of his debt has a SOL that ends Aug/Sept this year. I was floored to say the least. I am working to get things removed and so far I got I chargeoff removed. If you have old debt and no one is coming after you for any money....I wouldn't pay it.
