Removal of 30 day late credit card payments from report...

I have eleven 30 day late notations on my credit report.
This is from 2 different cards and covers a 10 year time
span. Is there any way to get these removed from my
credit report? Both credit card companies said to write a letter
disputing this info-- however, i have no idea what
happened in these cases. I'm sure sometimes I was
truly late due to lack of money, personal problems, etc.
but I also know a few of the late charges were due to
lost mail b/c I have moved so often in the last 10 years. Any advice or info on whether I can get this stuff
off my report-- and if so, what's the best way to go
about it?
