Cease and desist orders

It is my understanding that a third party collection agency
must stop all communication as wellas remove derogatory items
from my credit file when I send them legal notice to cease and
desist communication. This allegedly is verbage contained in the
Fair Debt Collection Act. Is this true? How does it work?
