Bankruptsy

I have a in-law that is planning on filing bankruptsy in the new year.
I am trying to talk her out of this. She just recently got married
to a person with debts from his previous marriage and she has
debts from her previous marriage. She has a house that
she has been trying to sell and has been unsuccessful.
She wants to file bankrupsty so that the house will go back
to the bank and to get out from under her credit card debts.
She thinks that if she files bankruptsy by herself it will not affect
her new husbands credit because his name is not on the house loan
or the credit cards. Is this true and how will this affect his assets and
debts that he has accrued?
