I think it should be prohibited to run credit checks on people for employment. When someone was barely getting by and couldn't get any help and borrowed some money to survive, and credit cards companies then multiply this debt--and then this person can't even get employment to get up on their feet because of that. It just worsens the situation: during economic crisis it's bad enough, without all that. To some colleges credit card companies come there every single day, set-up tables and start to give fee gifts "if you fill out the application"--they lure unsuspecting people into their web. It's the same as casinos, you don't even have to be 21. I personally enjoyed charging these vendors $50 each time for taking too much space with their tables: and God they didn't want to pay even that for the space they used!--compare to how easily they'll take your $30 for a 2-cent overdraft. What I read, and I agree with it is that employment credit screening is an indirect form of discrimination against minorities/single women/mothers, etc. who tend to have worse reports on average.
