First off, it is not the CRAs fault. They are lying through their teeth(provided they have any). The CRA puts the information on your report that the CA gives them. Do you have an old report showing the tradeline? I would be willing to bet they will resell the remaining part of the debt you did not pay in a settlement. Even with a letter stating it would be settlement in full they can still do this legally. What does your current credit report say and your past report.
