CA calling old roomate...please help

Hello, Just started (within the last month) getting my credit together after years of stupidity & this board & ones I've found through it have been a great help (Thanks to all!!) but I now have a new problem out of the blue & I'm not exactly sure what to do... An old CC charge off has been "bought" or whatever by an outfit called Southwest Credit Card Services in TX...they've never called or mailed me anything but somehow they have my old roommate's phone #(he's had it for just a few month's...how did they get it??) & are calling & harassing him trying to get to me. He's been great & hasn't giving him my current phone # but the guy has called him 3 times now & won't stop, even saying his name is somehow connected to it (which it isn't, I've never co-signed anything with anyone, it's all my own debt). How did they get his name & phone #? I haven't lived with the guy for almost a year! Anyway, is this legal? How can this guy do this? & what is my best way of making him stop? I've read several places not to call CAs....do I send him a cease contact letter? A validation letter? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
