I took an auto loan out in Rhode Island and live in California my car was reposessed in 97 due to a messy divorce. According to the Credit Report the last date of activity was 05/98. Now my ex-wife who was on as joint account holder is trying to buy a house. So she is dealing with this bad mark on her credit. I cannot afford to pay off the deficiency. I think I am well beyond the statute of limitations for Califronia. The creditor has not contacted me since '97. What can I do to protect myself? My credit is also trashed because of this.
