After high school, I got into some trouble with credit cards. I got a late start but am about to graduate from college with a degree in elementary education. I have been unable to make payments on my credit cards. The debts are about 3 years old. All of the collection agencies stopped calling about 6 months ago. I recently moved with my fiance. I assumed the cards had just charged off. However, an attorney who says she represents Chase Bank recently began calling me. I'm not even sure how she got my phone number. She is trying to collect on the debt which is about $1600. She is also threatening to sue me. I have several questions. First, if she is an attorney, should she be trying to collect money from me? Second, how did she get my phone number? Third, I told her I would be graduating next May and would be able to work something out then. She said that wasn't possible. Is it? Fourth, do you really think they will take the time, money, and effort to come to North Carolina to sue me? And finally, what can I do about some of the horrible and mean things she says to me over the phone?
