Being sued by credit company, what will happen

I was recently found out that a company that bought an old credit card debt is suing me and my court date is 5/20. I have over the years asked if I could repay the debt at a lower monthly amount than they offered and the answer has always been no, it will take to long to pay back....

I don't have any money to pay this off. I cannot afford to have wages garnished or anything like that. The last time I have paid on this account is sometime in early 1999. It has been sold many, many times since then. I am still paying on my car (it is a '96 and we only have the one) and we rent our home.

I am terrified and hoping that someone can give me an idea of what I am going to be facing, as well as what might eventually happen.

Thanks.
