help, RMA trying fast one ?

I owed Sears about $2500.00. Mr. RMA told me over the phone that if i paid $1100.00 (which i did) That the account would be settled. Now, the balance of that is showing on my recent cr as balance /past due. $1400.00. I realize i made the mistake of taking his word but, but they did send me a letter (after much hounding) saying that the account is settled the letter also says that i have a ZERO balance. I guess what i'm asking is will this letter save me from future destruction from RMA. I have proof in black and white account settled. Any help you could give me would be greatly appeciated.
