How old is this debt ? When did you last pay the original creditor ?? The SOL in SC is blissfully short - 3 years (and to think I moved away from SC 3 years ago.. lol!).

They can't garnish wages in SC, but they could place a lien on your home. A lot depends on how much equity you have.

The debt was just charged off in January of this year. I just assumed since the amount was so high that they will definitely sue and I would like to get it taken care of so that we will eventually be able to buy another house since we just found out we are expecting again and only have a 2 bedroom.

I am just wondering if I should try to settle with F/U directly, do they do that after it's charged off since they are the only ones that can change the negative to a positive. I'd really like to have it marked paid as agreed if I am going to pay $5500.

Just curious how to handle this. I mean should I settle quickly or let it ride for a while and see what happens. TIA for your great advice.
