hey everyone I need a bit of help. We have had the paper for about 2 years, it came up for renewal in april, at that time we cancelled it, because the paper was not being delivered( why pay for it, if we ain't getting it right?) Account was cancelled 4-5-2003

Well yesterday 5-15-2003 we receive a nasty gram for a collection agency in Memphis, TN stating we owe $10.54
What ticked me off was that today the paper called wanting to know I wanted a new subscription! I explained all the above, and the lady told me to call billing which I did. Her response was, I don't know why you didn't get a bill. My point was even if I did, and it was not yet due, how can it be sent to a CA?

SO I all the CA, and I tell them I am dispting and want verifaction, the idiot states " you have it in your hand" I tell him, no I have a letter from you saying I owe money, I want Proof that I owe it, via signed contract, etc. He is dumbfounded.

What I need to know is what can I do to prevent them from listing anything on my wifes credit report, she has good credit, mine sucks. I plan on calling the newspaper back next week as well to see what they know, and I will probably pull my wifes credit report as well. Any ideas how I can slam dunk this pretty quick? We live in MS.
