First of all...calm down. They are not nearly the hardasses they used to be. They will work with you, but be sure to answer each correspondence you get from them. My husband and I had to deal with them to the tune of 20,000 dollars when we were 21 and 22, respectively! (My dad passed away and left us some money,and the CO he worked for didn't tax it). My husband got laid off 4 years into paying them, and they put us on moratorium for a year, meaning we didn't have t pay during that time. When we recontacted them a year later, they said we owed nothing and were in the clear. I'm sure they must have written some off for us, but they were very helpful when we needed it. They did put a lien on our home, however, but when we were done, it was gone. Hope this helps you some!
