As a former CAMCO employee - the majority of what I've read has been quite entertaining. I was NEVER advised to break the law in order to collect a debt. We did NOT make phone calls after 9pm, per the FDCPA. Why would we want to stay and work later than necessary? Typically, in the field of collections, there are those who are scam artists. They prey on people, make threats, etc. Not all at CAMCO are/were like that. There were many instances where debts were denied, etc. I would call the original creditor and validate the debt w/ the consumer on the line. Many people just did not want to pay their bill. The company isn't a scam. The bottom line is that if the debt was taken care of years ago when it was originally due, companies wouldn't be in business, buying old paper. A charge off is NOT a good reason to avoid paying a bill. FYI-many accounts were well within the statue of limitations. There are always 2 sides to every story.
