I don't know anything about the first CA, but NCO is a bunch of nasty, law-breaking, screaming harpies !! The can NOT just 'get a judgment', they have to sue you first, serve you a summons, go to court and THEN, MAYBE they can get a judgment. IF they do, and I'm told they rarely, if ever, sue, then what they can do depends on your state. Judgments can hang around for YEARS, also depending on your state.

Once they get a judgment, how they find out about your assets is they either send you interrogatories which you HAVE to answer (or face contempt charges) or they drag you into court for a 'debtor's examination' in which they grill you on all your personal and financial info. There are exemptions from judgment, again, depending on your state, so there's no need to worry that they'll just come take 'everything', even though they may make those kinds of threats. Count on it NCO will make those threats - and they're illegal. The usual enforcement of judgments includes wage garnishment, siezure of bank accounts, and non-exempt assets.

Judgments are a matter of public record, recorded at the courthouse. Anyone can access them and it would show up on your CR and be bad news for a long time.

Don't talk to them. If you don't know what the debt is that NCO wants, send them a DV letter, just ignore that crap about it being a waste of their time. They like to apply pressure using the phone.. so don't talk to them.
