I am still showing a charge-off from Sears that dates back to 1998 (last activity.) I am still showing a balance of $1800, but have not heard from Sears, nor any collection agency since late 1998. Sears is still reporting on it, as of April 2003, as an unpaid charge-off, there-by giving me an nice R9 on my credit report. QUESTION: Should I make contact with Sears and try to negotiate a reduced pay-off and have them delete the account from my credit report as part of the deal? I have heard that rambling letters referencing various credit reporting laws and statute of limitations work well in negotiating a fair deal. Or should I just wait out another 2 years and watch it fall off my credit report?
