$5-$10 a month? Oh sure. I, like most people who find themselves unemployed through no fault of their own, contacted all my creditors to let them know of my situation. They don't work with you. I was actually told "it's not our problem". After a year and a half of unemployment, my resources were gone, I had no income. I finally found a job making a little less than half what I used to make. During that time some of my debts actually doubled due to late fees, over the limit charges, increased interest rates, etc. Do you see how this works? They kick you when you're down, making it impossible for you to catch up.

At this point, my income is half, my debts are double.

I would actually like to start paying my debts off one at a time, starting with the few that actually did work with me during my unemployment. The problem with this is as soon as the others see I'm paying on one, the rest will be after me for their share. Since there's not enough for everybody, nobody gets anythng.

For the first 6 months of my unemployment, I kept up with all my bills by using my savings, thinking I would be able to find a job soon. That was a big mistake. I would have been much better off keeping my money.

My once perfect credit is already trashed - why on earth would I send one penny to these subhumans who couldn't find a way to give me a break when I so desperately needed it? Paying them now won't help my credit one bit. I'm better off keeping my money and waiting it out. If I can make it past the sol without getting sued - great. If not, my lawyer is ready to file my bankruptcy papers. Paying collectors would only worsen an already bad situation. Maybe they should think about finding a way to make paying them a beneficial option for people in my situation. As it is, paying them would be detrimental to my finances and my credit report.
