This is my personal experience. I was referred to Chexsystems a few years ago by BofA. The amount was for something like $212. At the time I was referred I had recently opened an account at Union Bank. I found out because my ATM card was not letting me withdraw money. That began to happen on Friday night, when I spoke to a Union Bank rep., they told me that I was indeed referred to Chexsystems, and he also told me to pay off the debt, and hound BofA to get me off of Chexsystems, not just to update my Chexsystems listing as paid. He said as long as I was on Chexsystems not only would I not be able to open a new account, the account I had at Union, in good standing, could and probably would be closed. So I fought and fought with BofA to no avail. And eventually the Union account was close. Though I do not have very good credit, this is the only instance that I had as far as bank accounts.
I never really researched this thoroughly until recently, and that led me to this site. Earlier this week, a forum member gave into one of those "Non-Chexsystems Bank lists here..." sites, he decided to share his user name and password, so others could easily see what the site had listed. Fortunately for me, there was a credit union listed. It is Downey Federal Credit Union. It is located in Downey California. They use Telecheck, and Telnet. Since I do not work for the City of Downey, I had to pay some donation to some charity, and a little bit more to become a member. It cost me about $17 in fees to open the account, checkings and savings. So after all this time I am finally able to write checks and put some money away. No more money orders for me!!!
I hope that my story gives hope to others. If only I had found this site years ago. I don't feel right posting the username and password for the person who posted earlier in the week, but if you do a search, you should be able to locate it. Good luck, it looks like things are starting to get better for me. I wish you all the same.

Keep plugging away,
brad
