I live in NY, and had an outstanding debt that is about 7 or 8 years old now, from an auto financing place. I have seen my credit report, having gotten it only a month ago. This is not on my report. I just starting getting calls from a collection agency trying to settle on the debt. What I need to know is if this is legal, and if it is no longer on my report, how could it be hurting me? I am so frustrated over this. Of course, I did not tell the collection agency that I know this is no longer on my report. Please help me.
