The FCRA states that you can dispute the validity of items on your credit report. If you initiate a dispute then the CRA has 30 days to investigate. I did dispute a item and the collection agency simply blocked my move by stating that the debt is valid. At that point, the CRA puts your statement on your report as to what happened based on your story. The problem I had was with unauthorized goods shipped to me. The person sending the goods assumed that I weould take them and had items personalized to me.I did not order these things so I sent them back.He decided since he was out of money for them,I should be penalized by dinging my credit for 7 years. This is not identity theft ,but it is a nusiance.Once the collection bureau has the account, they won't hear that you didn't order the products and don't care what happened.Disputing simply means that a verification that the Collection agency has the account has been done.THEN YOU GET A STATEMENT ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT.Sounds a little like the "FIRST PUNCH' theory.
