calling & harrassing me, &the person doesnt even live here

Hi, i keep getting annoying and harrassing phone calls from a bill collector who always shows up on my caller ID as "out of area" They are looking for my mother who DOES NOT live here. My mother is in a safe house for battered women.
The guy tonight said that I was lying and that I was really my mother and that this was her phone number. I told him this is MY phone, there is no (insert name) here! My mom does get calls here once in a while, she is going thru a bad divorce, so I let her give my number to certain people who need to leave a message for her. And yes she does visit me often, in doing so, she answers the phone when I cant get it. It happened when she was here a couple weeks ago, the guy asked for (name) and she said it was her. So I can't lie to the collector and say i dont know her because he talked to her from this number, and her maiden name and my last name are the same. (maided name is what she owes money under) AND she did used to live here b4 she moved out to get married. I dont know how they got my number, the calls seemed to start all at once. I know my mom wouldnt give it to them. This is my phone and my number, I've had it in MY name for 7 years ever since my mom moved out and married. I dont want to change it. And im NOT going to give my moms cell number to the collectors. Is there anyway I can make them stop calling MY home? It's very annoying picking up the phone on a Sunday evening just to find out its some moron calling me a lier. Oh and my mother when she talked to the bill collector a couple weeks ago told the man she didnt live here and that she was basically homeless. The collector said "you're 48 years old and you have nothing?" These bill collectors are cut throat! can anyone help me? I'd like to know why I pay for caller ID and also pay for not allowing private numbers to call me, when they still can call. And its not a simple fixz of not answering the phone because my sisters cell phone also shows up as "out of area" If I had the company's name I think I would have a better chance of getting the calls to stop, but I dont have a clue who they are. ugh... what do I do? -Frustrated sorry so long, but i figured if anyone can help me, it would be best to include as much info as I could.
