On the 14th of May I was issued a Civil Summons on a Credit Card that had been sold off as bad debt on March 29th of 2001. I attempted to go through credit counseling and was told that since I no longer have any active cards (all are charged off) that they would be unable to help me.
The summons here is asking for the monies due. I checked on my credit report and the charge off initial debt matches the one on my credit report for one of my cards. They want this and 19.990 % interest from the time it was charged off and attornies fees at amost 800 dollars.
I know I have 20 days to respond to the letter which is later this week. I am absolutely terrified and do not know where to turn next on this. I realize that I owe this debt (as well as the other debts) and want to pay it off, but I don't have that much money at one time. My greatest fear is that my wages will be garnished, to my utter embarassment. What can I do? or what SHOULD I do? Please help with advice, if you can....
