Hello
I am a 21 year old college student who needs some advice. The few months after I graduated from high school I managed to put myself into debt. I opened a checking account, got a cell phone + two credit cards. All of these are now in collections. I have paid off my "biggest" bill (my Visa, in a settlement - I paid $458 of the $910 that I owe-it is now paid). I am trying to get everything paid off. My checking account with Firstar Bank (now US Bank) is being paid off this upcoming week and I hope to be "debt free" by Mid-July... I owe them $334. My "Grand-Total" of all my bills was $1,699 (I'm telling you this, because I don't know if the amount of debt matters,lol.) Basically, my questions are :
How difficult will it be for me to open a checking account in the future? What are some options for improving my credit? Will my early bad-credit past make it impossible to get a car loan or rent an apartment?

I am working and trying my best to make good on what I now know was a huge mistake. I havn't had any "new" debt for about two years now.. Did I wait to long? Thanks for all your help!!!!
