Do not ignore the IRS with regards to the 1099 C. The IRS considers this to be income to you. The collector is only interested in prying money out of you and lining his/her pockets. This might be another violation of the law. The good news is that you might be able to report the 1099 C without paying any additional taxes. I do not remember the exact critieria, so I will check my tax information over the weekend and post again. You could check out the IRS website at www.irs.gov and see what they have to say about a 1099C.
