Authorized user status

Question about authorized user status: I was added as an authorized user on two of my spouse's accounts. Unfortunately he had a couple of late payments a couple of years ago. Now they're listed on my report, even though the debt was incurred before mine. Then I tried to have my status reported on an old account that was never late, and they wouldn't do it (since I wasn't legally responsible for the balance). Since I'm not, and never have been, legally responsible for those balances, why would this show up? I didn't notice it in the cardholder agreement or any other of the policies (and I've saved all of them)...... Anybody ever heard of this happening?
