Your state may have laws that mirror the FDCPA and may include original creditors. In case you don't know, the FDCPA applies to parties OTHER THAN the ORIGINAL creditor who are trying to collect on a debt. States, such as California, have state laws that also prohibit original creditors from engaging in the activities that are prohibited by the FDCPA. (Also applies to acts that are required)

If the note was left where anyone could see it AND your state has it's own debt collection laws, then this could have been a violation.

What state are you in and how was the note and check copy left?

One could argue that even if this doesn't fall within a state statute, it could be seen as an oppressive and threatening act to come to your house IF the payday loan was very very recent.
