college student needs help

I am a college student and i have a credit card that has gotten way out of hand.The card was for a 1000 and now it's at 3000! I have gotten a little behind on the payments and now my minimum payment is about 300. I am inbetween school, where i recieve income for going to school but right now I am looking for a job and have enough income to pay rent and that's about it. What I am wondering is, what are my options? Contact a company like Ameridebt? Will Ameridebt hurt my credit? Should I try and get another credit card with lower interest rates, if I can? I thought about my local bank, but rihgt now with out a job, i doubt they would lend 3000 to pay off the credit card. Any help is welcomed.Thanks.
