Judgments themselves accrue interest at whatever rate is allowed by your state. It accrues until it is paid. If your settlement didn't include that additional interest, that is probably what this extra amount is.

As for losing your job just because of a garnishment, Federal law prohibits it. I realize they can come up with some bogus reason to fire you, but they cannot do so JUST because of a garnishment.
