This is to all who give advice in this forum. I'll make my story short. In 1998 I lost my job then my home and my excellent credit. I had absolutely no knowledge that a "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" existed. Anyway, last year a collector called me to try to collect on my foreclosed house (it was the 2nd mortgage on my home worth $50,000 that did not get paid off with the sell of the house). I was SOOOOO scared because of all the things he said he would do to me, my job, my husbands career (in the navy) etc. I felt SO desperate that I even considered suicide. I felt that if I was gone, my husband could collect on insurance and pay these people and they would leave my family in peace. I know how STUPID it sounds now, but that's how aweful they made me feel. I've never been very good at the computer but somehow (and I really don't remember how) I found this room. I posted some questions and the response was incredible. You guys/gals pointed me in the direction that I needed. I then read the FDCPA and learned SOO much. I felt so empowered with knowledge. Although all my fighting back was done through the mail, I have not heard from any collector in 8 months. I sincerely want to THANK you all who take so much time out of your days to help and advice people. I have to say that you all literally SAVED MY LIFE! Your advice and kind words kept me from doing something outrageous and stupid. I strongly believe that God led me to this room to meet some computer angels!
