Hi, I recently posted questions about Schreiber and Assoc, but apparently Excalibur (who bought old Providian debts, I guess.) has hired new lawyers, this time licensed in my state, so I'm not sure what to do. I live in California, and according to EX, the debt is scheduled to remain until 9/2007, whereas according to EQ, the date of last activity is 2/00. I just received a notice today from Eskanos and Adler, P.C., the usual collector type notice (not certified or anything, regular mail). As I read through other posts here about E & A, it seems they win against folks, I believe my SOL has not yet passed, and I think I'd rather not be sued. So, my question is, what is the best course of action? I know many folks talk about validation letters, but doesn't that simply push lawyers to sue? Also, what is the skinny on negotiation? I'm really reluctant to talk to collectors because of the abuse we've all sustained at one time or another, but I would also really love to just put this behind me. One more: do the old lawyers (Schreib and Ass.) still have any interest in this debt, or has it been all passed to the new guns? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
