Help..Recent Unknown Chargeoff

I recently requested a copy of my credit report to discovered a chargeoff from a creditor CIBC Marketplace bank whom closed operations in the U.S 12/31/02. I opened a line of credit in 10/02..2 months before the unforeseen closure of the this bank. They reported my line of credit $500.00 as a chargeoff on Jan 1,2003. I recently disputed and now await an answer from Equifax..has anyone else had this problem with CIBC Marketplace bank. I never received a notice letter or anything about the accounts being closed, transferred or anything..keep in mind that this was an internet banking environment. Now this garbage has ruined my credit score!!!! Does anyone has any solutions???
