You can check the IRS website for a more complete definition, but basically:

Head of Household

Not married as of December 31 of filing year

Pay 50% or more of the housing and costs for the qualifying person

Qualifying person lives in the same house as the HH for at least 50% of the year.

Note on last one: exception to this is supporting your parent in another household.

This is the basic idea, however there are exceptions. You can support a parent in another location.

State of Florida will accept your filing status with the IRS.
