i had a charged-off account with providian for $1400. it got charged off in '99 when i lived in KY, and i live in PA now. in july 2002, the company who bought the account somehow found my phone # and gave me a settlement for $1000. they gave me only a short amount of time to pay or they said they would take legal action and also said i would spend time in jail. they told me if i did not call them back by this certain time they would close the account, then the legal action would take place. i did not call them back. almost a year has passed, and i have not heard from them since. on calls, no letters, no nothing.
