PAYING A CREDITOR

In 1939, my grandmother passed away after a lengthy illness, leaving a very large hospital bill that there was no way my grandfather could pay. The adult children, numbering about 7-8, went to the hospital and talked to them about paying this bill. A payment plan was set up, with interest. It took many years to repay this debt, but it was repaid. My point is, this creditor worked with my family. There were no threatening letters or phone calls.....and they got their money. When was the last time you heard of a creditor today asking how they could help by setting up a debt payment plan that was workable, without hundreds of dollars in inflated interest and other fees? If their whole point is to collect a debt, wouldn't it be in their best interest to work with the debtor in a decent manner? Perhaps this is a Pollyanna outlook, but most people are hard-working individuals, and with a little cooperation could actually pay back their debts and get ahead in the world. When was the last time you saw a post on a credit report by a CA that stated a person was paying on time as agreed? I would think a post that a person is paying on time, even a long standing debt, would be better for all involved, but it seems the leeches at some CA would rather suck the whole deal dry.
