Can anyone offer any assistance? We are looking into refinancing our current mortgage and in the preliminary process I pulled both mine and my wifes credit reports off of Equifax. Upon reviewing my wife's report, we found a medical collections account showing up which shows a reported date of 3/2002 and a last activity of 3/2002 along with a date assigned of 10/2000. It is for $50.00. She had no idea what it was for, since she has never been to that hospital in over 8 years. I called the collection agency and inquired about the account. They stated it was for services rendered back in 1991. I stated to them that the account was 12 years old and the SOL for SC was 3 years and I wanted it removed along with sending me a letter stating the same. They told me they would have it removed and mail my letter. Now 2 weeks have past and no letter. My wife called again today and inquired about the letter. They stated that we were told incorrectly, and that the collection is still valid and they werent going to remove it or do anything and we need to pay the $50.00.
What should we do?? Any advise would be appreciated.
