Ok, So I've assessed my total Debt. I owe roughly 1500$ 550$ to Sears, 150$ to bon marche, a 50$, a 75$, and some 650$ collection. I called one collection agency, who has 2 of my things in collections, for a total of 600$. They sent me a letter, so I responded and told them I'd pay it off, if they can guarantee it comes completely off my credit. The lady I spoke with first said that it is reported to the credit bureau, who then make adjustments to my credit report. I told her I'd be happy to pay it, if it completely came off my account. She couldn't guarantee it, told me I'd have to call the credit bureau and talk to them. I then asked her, if I don't pay,and don't react to my credit now, does it completely come off, she said technically yes, but it'll come back to haunt me, because it'll show I still owe money somewhere. So, I asked her for the # to the credit bureau, and she said she couldn't give it to me. I asked her why, she said because "First, I need your ACCT # to verify who you are." I told her I never said who I was, and if you want my account #, i'll just look online for the #. She told me I wouldn't find the # online. I say she's full of crap, but anyways. All but one of my debts went into collections in sept/oct 1996. They come off my credit in about 6 months, which is fine, from what I understand. Please advise if I'm doing the right thing by waiting. It's ridiculous that I make almost 85k a year, and I can't get a simple visa due to something 6 years ago when I was freaken 18 years old.
