They don't really care if the estate is closed. They are hoping to catch you off guard and get you to pay something you don't owe. Always question everything, even if you think you owe it. It might be a mistake. Keep careful records. Before the government broke up the phone company, they used to charge by message units in NYC. If they had left over units at the end of the billing period, they just spread them out over the existing customers. If someone complained, they removed the charges, If not, well they overpaid.
