No, they credit card company does NOT have to notify you that they're sending your account to collections. Usually you'll get some kind of nastygram saying they will turn it over to collections, but if that, too, is going to an incorrect address, then you wouldn't get that either.

Sending it to a bad address ? Well, as stupid as it sounds, these morons do NOT cross-check between accounts !! Yes, you'd think if they had the right address for one, they'd look to correct the other, but the truth is they don't. Its all computerized and humans RARELY even see these things until a collections rep gets involved. It IS your obligation to make sure bills get to you,unfortunately. You KNOW you're supposed to get them and they leave it to you to make sure of it. Its assinine.. but its they way the work - and make money off of late fees, interest rates, etc.

Disputing the charges and demanding an itemization of the account IS the right place to start. I hope you sent the letter Certified, RRR and have the receipt. If you didn't, any other letters you write should go that way so you have a provable paper trail.
