Mine's been in super-critical for over a year, I'm filing for bankruptcy this fall.

AMEX will certainly start to persecute you if they start to see any pattern of lates with ANY creditors. One probably wouldn't goad them, but 1 with several creditors at the same time probably will.. it starts to look like you're not makin' it to them.

I've not paid most creditors for over a year, starting with my 6-month unemployment stint last year. Once you get that far behind, its hopeless trying to catch up, its like trying to dig a hole in a swamp - no matter what you shovel out, its replaced with even more water and slime !! So far, not a one of them has made any moves to sue, not even MBNA. I get the usual garbage collection letters with the usual threats and scare tactics, but that's about it so far. The biggest one for me to worry about is the now-unsecured 2nd mortgage that I had on my house - which was foreclosed on and sold almost 2 years ago. That one is the one I'm worried about because the amount is huge (probably nearing 50K with lates, fees, etc. by now). So you can see, BK is definitely in my future - now way I can afford it if that one sues.
