Raising FICO score

OK, I will try one more time...I have fixed my credit, paid all my debts, now how do I raise my score, I know I can get items deleted from my credit reports, I have gotten advice to get a credit card and buy small purchases and pay it off on time and that will raise it, I have been told in time it will go up. Does anyone have ANY ideas or things that have worked for them? I am giving myself 1 year to save and get my score up. I consider my credit damaged, not poor since I paid it all of and made the effort. My scores are in the high 500's but need to be 620+ I am going to pull all 3 reports soon and go towork on all of them. I have learned a lot on here and wish I could have had this knowledge long ago.
