I recently discovered that I had two old medical bills associated with knee surgery in Nov 1999. One is for an old MRI which fell through the cracks because the provider didn't bill the insurance co. properly (I was covered by both primary and secondary insurance). As a result, the $1075 bill is at a collection agency and after calling my insurance to ask what happened, they send that it's too late to process the claim now since it's too old. But they acknowledge that I was covered. What do I do? Settle with the collection agency? For how much? Can I somehow force the insurance co. to pay up? The collection agency is ok with settling for $750 lump sum and they'll remove the mark from my report. What do I do?
