I strongly suggest you NOT EVER pay a collection agency for ANYTHING.

They lie and cheat and steal, they will lie and tell you what you want to hear, if you "settle" with them, they will remove THEIR account from your credit report, BUT they will SELL the balance to ANOTHER collection agency who will start all over again with a NEW collection on your report.

Try the "HIPAA" letter system, if you follow the directions you will probably get the same good results that others have.
