I remember when I first fell behind - I got sick for months and couldn't work. I tried to negotiate having them defer my payments until I could get better. No luck. So I hated all of them and I cut the 2nd phone in my house so they couldn't reach me.

I was not working. I was sick. And I had no one to help with any sort of payments like that. I did have a roof over my head - someone else's roof. Anything I could scratch together was for liability car insurance and just some food money.

So yeah... why should I call back when they don't really care about your situation. I was already feeling terrible already. Their job is just to collect a debt - no matter what. Doesn't matter if the person has their arm hanging from a string and is gushing blood. The collectors want their money and that doesn't make me want to talk to any of them ever. I did eventually file bk - and I'm glad I did. I really had no other choice.

But it is hard to get back into building credit - especially after reading how so many things on the report are wrong after a bk. And they are. I'm disputing and disputing and would like to get a secured card next month to start building credit.

I never planned for an illness but I guess that was my fault. I had high balances on many cards but was still making the minimums - I figured when I graduated I could pay more. But never planned on bad things happening. Well, I know now bad things can happen at any time and everything will not always be in your control - not 100% of the time.
