Probably legal but unethical as hell. Stay away from BIG name credit card issuers like MBNA, Citibank, Capital One etc.. Stick with a local bank if you can....they are way less likely to pull this crap...it's simply another way for your CC company to screw a consumer and make more money. Pay off your account, cut up the card in small pieces and send it to them along with a cancel my account note.
