RJM Aquisitions?

My wife recently got a collection notice for an old Fingerhut account. The Creditor is listed as RJM Aquisitions funding LLC,assignee of fingerhut. My wife does know that she bought a stereo boom box from Fingerhut before we were married (5 1/2 years)and never finished paying for it. Says she moved and forgot about it and never heard anything until now. We could certainly pay it now but she says it was an overpriced piece of junk and I despise collection agencies....so we won't. After reading this board and others I'm pretty sure the debt is past the 7 year reporting time and is past SOL for our state whether they say it was revolving or written contract doesn't matter. her concern is that RJM will try to re-age the debt (we've read that they do this). She has no record of purchasing it so we have nothing written to prove how old it is.

Now I know from what I've read that RJM buys stale accounts (i.e. bottom feeder)but why would Fingerhut be listed as "assigning" such an old account to RJM?

Also strange, the letter came from Mitchell N. Kay. I'm familiar with this company as well. When I was in the army I use to work in the mail room of my unit's baracks and people were always getting crap from Mitchell N Kay and Plaza associates. Most blew them off as a joke.

I was just wondering why a bad debt buyer would use a collection agency to try to collect. Any ideas? Thanks.
