Can 10-yr Old Chg. Off Affect Credit?

I have a couple of charge offs (dept store card & Discover) from 1992. Can lender still find out about these? Hasn't St. Of Limits and seven-year cred report expired. Got a letter from a third party who "bought debt" told them to forget about payment. CAN THIS AFFECT MY PRESENT CREDIT. Have a Visa, dept store cards, gas cards...thought this was over. Greg
