State SOL's cover the time limit for being sued to enforce collection of a debt.

Negative items remain on your credit report for 7 years, per the FCRA. It has nothing to do with your State's SOL for bringing suit against you.

However, WhyChat has a letter on his site that can be used to dispute a out-of-statute debt on your credit reports and hopefully get it removed, so you MAY have some success in getting it removed early.
