Reposession question

I had a vehicle repossesed in April by Ford Credit (Colorado). I just pulled my credit report and see that it is the account status is: "Account Charged Off/Voluntarily surrendered. $11,603 written off." I have been waiting to hear from someone concerning the deficiency. Does anyone know the usual recourse for an accout in this status? This is only one piece of our financial mess due to my husband being out of work off and on. I don't ever want to borrow another penny from anyone again. Too much of a burden.
